Restrictions

1. The maximum length of any folder or file name is 255.

2. No leading spaces in the filename.

3. No trailing spaces in folder names, file names, or file extensions.

4. Any non-printable ASCII characters will not be filtered by SkySync.

5. Restricted characters in the file name: . .. / \

6. Please contact Box for any restriction on the number and size of files and folders to have in one parent folder.

Special Notes

1. When setting up a box connection you need to use the admin or a co-admin account.

2. If you have an Enterprise License the "Box Content Admin" allows for access to all user accounts on the Enterprise account.

3. If you would like to enable a metadata template for the connector you must enter in the name of the template in the space shown in the below screenshot when setting up the connection.

Note

For information on how to set up a metadata template in box please see this article.

4. The maximum upload file size is controlled by Box.  Here is a link to their support article -  https://community.box.com/t5/Managing-Your-Content/What-s-the-maximum-file-size-I-can-upload/ta-p/307

5. Box has a monitoring webpage to check for outages and issues, please check https://status.box.com/ for any issues with the Box service when experiencing problems.

6. Box accounts that do not have admin level access cannot remove group permissions on files during a job transfer.

This often occurs when the box user has not accepted the box terms of service.  Reviewing Fiddler trace logs will reveal a response from Box : "User must accept custom terms of service before action can be taken"

This results in the 400 Bad Request Error being returned to SkySync.

To resolve the issue, have the user log-in to Box and accept the terms of service.

7. There is a known issue with the Box connector. If "Exclude files in shared folders" is enabled, and there are multiple shared folders with the same name owned by different users in Box, the job will return the failure: "The truncated name would result in name conflicts on the storage platform." There is no workaround for this other than renaming the folders.

8. Due to changes to the  Box API connection pooling no longer is effective in increasing speed with the Box connector.

Password Change/Expiration

Info

If the password for the account that was used to make the connection in SkySync has changed or expired, SkySync will return unable to obtain valid access token in the Job History whenever the job executes. In addition, more infrequently, the access token can expire over a long period of time naturally (this can take months).

To fix this, you must re-enter the login credentials in SkySync. The following steps detail how to re-enter login credentials:

1. From the home screen in SkySync, click on the Navigation tab to go to the Navigation panel.

2. On the left side of the screen, right-click on the connection the job is using, and select Edit.

3. In the screen that appears, re-enter the user-name and password for the storage platform account.

If the above steps do not work, please try the suggestion below.

Unable to obtain a valid access token error

Recent updates at Box may have caused the SkySync app to become disabled by default.

Symptoms leading to this may be:

  • SkySync was functioning properly and is now reporting: The application was unable to obtain a valid access token to the storage platform.

"The Account 'Joe User' Is Not Authorized to Perform the Requested Operation" Error

When attempting to perform a user drive mapping job against Box, you may encounter the error message in SkySync:  "The Account 'Joe User' Is Not Authorized to Perform the Requested Operation"

Where ‘Joe User’ is a specific user account in your enterprise.

This error is generally due to a newly created Box account where the user has not yet responded to the welcome email, signed in, and been assigned their password.  Once the user completes these onetime security procedures, the account should be active and the user drive mapping sub job should complete successfully.
